Attendance
Parents can submit a student's absence note online through this link: ONLINE ATTENDANCE NOTE.
Nevada law requires that attendance notes be submitted within 3 days of the student's return from the absence. If more than 3 days have passed since the absence, it will be recorded as unexcused and cannot be changed. Students are allowed 10 absences per semester before being placed on probation.
You may continue to send an absence note to your child's teacher or the front office if that is your preference however, please only choose one method of communicating your student's absence. You do not have to call the office to inform us of the absence but you can continue to inform your student's teacher on Class Dojo as a courtesy.
Attendance Policy
Tardiness
Student tardiness disrupts learning and infringes on the rights of other students.
- A student is tardy if they are not physically present in the classroom at the start of the instructional day.
- A tardy becomes a ½-day absence if more than 1 hour and 55 minutes is missed, and a full-day absence if more than 3 hours is missed.
- Students arriving after 9:00 a.m. must be signed in by a parent/guardian in the office and receive a tardy pass before going to class.
- All tardies are unexcused, regardless of the reason.
Excused Absences
An absence is excused when:
- The student is physically or mentally unable to attend school due to illness or a medical appointment.
- A parent/guardian provides a written explanation of the absence within three (3) days after the student returns to school.
- All absence notes must be submitted to the front office.
- An administrator approves the absence for an unavoidable emergency.
- The student is participating in a school-sanctioned activity outside the classroom during regular school hours, with prior administrator approval.
Unexcused Absences
An absence is considered unexcused when:
- A parent/guardian fails to notify the school within three (3) days after the student returns.
- A parent/guardian willfully and knowingly refuses or fails to require the student’s attendance at school.
- Pre-Arranged Absences
- A pre-arranged absence occurs when a parent/guardian informs the school in advance that the student will be absent.
- Pre-arranged absences are always excused but count toward the student’s total number of absences.
- Elementary students may be required to repeat the grade if they have more than 20 total absences in a school year.
