Homework Policy

Homework Policy

Homework can be given to students Monday through Thursday and is used for practice or extension of learning but it does not carry any weight in the grade book. In determining the amount of homework given, teachers will consider that students also participate in out-of-school/home centered activities. No homework will be assigned on Friday or prior to a holiday. Teachers adhere to the standards and policy set by the Clark County School District on homework (CCSD Policy & Regulation 6143). Additional homework assignments may be assigned to meet student needs, focus on special projects, or complete make-up work.

Homework builds student responsibility, develops study skills, and promotes parent/guardian involvement in the child’s education. Homework can be assigned in increments of 10 minutes per grade level. We also encourage students reading at least 15 minutes a night at the primary level and no longer than 20 minutes in the intermediate grades. The combined amount of homework assigned that includes reading nightly should not overload the student and make it difficult to complete. If parents have concerns regarding homework for their child, they should contact the child’s teacher.
