Late Work & Grading Expectations

Late work and grading expectations

● Teachers will grade and post assignment/assessment scores via Infinite Campus within 5 school days of the turn in date of the assignment. Notification will be through Infinite Campus parent portal showing the grade a student received or if it was missing.

● Teachers will assign an "M" for late work when an assignment/assessment has not been turned in for which the teacher is taking a grade on.

● Once the grade for the assignment/assessment is posted on Infinite Campus to the grade book, students will have 5 school days to complete the late or missing work for full credit. After this period, students will not be allowed to turn in missing/late work. When/if the missing work is submitted, the "M" will be replaced with a score reflecting the student's academic performance and an "L" late flag will be added to the assignment to monitor student behavior separate from the academic grade. The M in the grade book equates to a 50% and a student is no longer able to turn in the work for credit thus impacting a student’s grade. When any work is missing due to a student being absent, students have 3 days after each day being absent to complete the work they missed due to their absence.

● A weekly Parent Link message will be sent to parents on Wednesdays as a reminder for them to check IC for missing/late work. It is expected that parents communicate with the classroom teacher via email, ClassDojo, a phone call or written note requesting that the student receive missing/late work so it can be completed. Teachers will respond to the parent within 24 hours via email, ClassDojo, a phone call or written note that the work has been given to the student to complete. It then becomes the responsibility of the parent and student to complete the missing/late work and return it to the teacher.

● Students can also request that they receive any missing/late work directly to the teacher. The teacher will provide the student any work/resources needed to complete the graded assessment and communicate with the parents that the child has received them via email, ClassDojo, a phone call or written note.

● Teachers will provide students and families with the necessary resources to complete the late/missing work that has been requested by the parent or student (e.g., a copy of the classwork, grading rubric, related resource material).

● Classroom teachers will keep a folder for students when they are absent to collect any work completed during the day. The folder/work will be given to the student when they return. As a reminder, students have 3 days for every day they are absent to complete the work they missed due to being absent.

● Students will turn in missing/late work directly to the teacher to be assessed and entered into the gradebook. It is not the responsibility of the teacher to remind the student to turn it in or return it once it has been given to them.

● Any missing/late work that hasn’t been completed in the assigned time frame will result in the student receiving a 50% due to no evidence of understanding.

○ Students will have 5 school days to complete the late or missing work for full credit from the date the grade for the assignment/assessment is posted on Infinite Campus to the grade book.

○ Students have 3 days for every day they are absent to complete the work they missed due to being absent.

● Teachers will clearly communicate the deadline for the acceptance of late work and the reassessment policy to families at the beginning of the year. This information will also be posted on the school’s website.

● Progress reports will be sent home showing missing work once a month.

● Students that have 10 or more missing/late assignments in at least one subject area will be referred to the Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS) team.

● Teachers will provide strategies for students related to work completion based on individual student needs.

● Parents will be provided resources on how to access Infinite Campus to view student grades and attendance via email yearly and it will be posted on the school’s website under the Parents tab.
